do I need Claude Code or Codex installed?

for those agents, yes — blu works with the CLI and sign-in you already use. It checks what is installed on your Mac, so you are never left guessing. No CLI? Use blu with an API key or a local model instead.

what can I bring into blu?

Claude Code, Codex, API keys for Anthropic, OpenAI, GLM, Kimi, DeepSeek, Groq and OpenRouter — plus any model Ollama or LM Studio is already serving on your Mac.

is my data actually mine?

yes. Your chats live in a local SQLite database you can open, export or encrypt; API keys stay in the Mac keychain. There is no blu account to create and no blu sync service. A cloud model receives what you send it; a local model sends nothing away.

is it really free?

the app is free forever. blu never marks up a token or takes a cut of your subscription. Optional add-ons will come later in the marketplace; the app itself never charges you.
